Caress the one Reaching, searching for something untouched. Hearing voices of the never-fading calling Minerva had felt the change through the stars.
It seemed that the voices of many had called to her, pleading, begging that she come forth. She had been unable to dismiss their calls, unable to ignore the pleas that had assaulted her ears. Something...she knew not exactly what was corrupting the lifestream - and through it, the other realms. As their goddess, it could not be ignored. And so she had to find the source of this corruption and vanquish it.
Yet she would not do so by her means alone. Her duty was to guide the humans in their plights. They would get lax if she secured their survival at every turn and every cost. No, while she would vanquish it, she would do so with the assistance of the mortals spread through Gaia. For some time she had been deep in thought over who would best be suited for the challenge. While many had good intentions, after studying mortals for thousands of years, she realized that it would take someone...special, to aid her in this battle. Someone that would not hesitate to lay down their lives. Someone who had nothing else to live for. This evil that was to be upon them was not one that would be without consequence, without sacrifice. Mortals had an interesting view of sacrifice, most deeming it unjust or unfair if it had to be them to give themselves up for the good of many.
Through the times, there had been some noteworthy men and women that had aided her and she had chosen to vanquish some evil. Yet many of those were dead, if not all. The choice was obvious when she thought more about it. More about a time when one mortal would have done anything to obtain her blessing - and still would. It was that man she watched right now from her place within the planet. His actions spoke of a man once more lost, without sure direction. Yet inside beat the heart of the servant she had known before. This man journeyed to she knew not where, but his station on the road was one that she saw clearly. Once her mind was set, Minerva left her place within the planet. This man would assist her in being the dew that quenched the land. He would help her unravel the mystery behind the sudden change that was swirling around Gaia as a viper ready to strike. The threat was off, but not far.
Bright lights, green and blue intermingling created a flash of blinding light as she took form mere feet in front of him. There she remained fast in her stead until she had materialized fully. As the remnants of light slipped free and disappeared, Minerva lifted her bowed head. The slight wind caressed her hair until it kissed at her cheeks and continued to flutter. Her gaze pierced directly into the male in front of her. There, she allowed him to get his wits back before she spoke. Her lips remained pressed gently together, her hand curled around her staff. Without the threat of a battle, she appeared free of her larger armor. "Genesis Rhapsodos.", her spoken words were as a caress in sound. With a lifted chin, the goddess watched him through unblinking gaze. "Have you lost your way as in times past?"

"The wandering soul knows no rest."
The words rang true, Genesis had long since realized. His steps had struck paths in past weeks that he had not known existed in a previous life. This path was no different. He could not be sure if he'd crossed into the Cosmo region as of yet, but the barren landscape would indicate as much. Truthfully, Genesis desired water, an essential part of life that he had been without since leaving the eastern part of the continent, but there was none to be found here. He had not made a habit of ceasing his wandering between cities or towns, either - the corrupt always found their way to the greatest opportunities to prey on innocents, and the only innocents to be found on these empty pathways were the smallest creatures who dared approach the crimson swordsman who had curiously entered their midst and drawn their attention. Genesis always passed them by without a sound.
He wondered if what drove him to continue this pursuit of a shapeless goal to see the world wiped clean of the corrupt would ever disappear and leave him to resume something of a more normal life, what normalcy the broken creation of a demented scientist could find in this world. Sephiroth had never found normalcy - in fact, Genesis had been impressed by the extent to which he had gone mad from the knowledge that he was the offspring of the calamity from the sky. While Genesis had no hopes of seeing Sephiroth change from an exceptional man to a madman desiring to become a god, he had to admit that he was impressed by how the discovery had affected the "world's finest SOLDIER." Genesis wondered if he too would one day fancy the thought of achieving godhood and sailing amongst the stars. The thought made him huff lightly in dry amusement. That day might come, but for now, he was content to remain the wind sailing over the water's surface.
And, suddenly, he was nearly blinded.
Stopping in place on the pathway, Genesis brought up his free hand before his eyes to shield them from the brilliant glow before him as he peered towards it with features impassive. It was only as the light began to dissipate that he noticed the lovely form concealed within. His eyes widened slightly as she came more and more into view, and once the lights had disappeared entirely, Genesis found himself gazing, surprised and speechless, at the most beautiful blessing this world had ever been granted. Immediately, Genesis fell to his knees before her, his rapier falling from his hand and his body finally giving way to the exhaustion that he felt. The greatest symphonies had not produced a more pleasing sound than her voice when she spoke his name, and the ex-SOLDIER could not help but smile ear to ear before falling over onto his hands to bow to her in respect. "Most beloved goddess," he greeted her, all too simply for what she deserved. If only the rest of this planet was aware of what they were missing by not being in this very place at this very moment.
Though he wished to further appreciate the timeless beauty before him as he once had, Genesis remained low in obeisance as she continued speaking. Her voice was enough to sustain his desires, for the moment, and her question...both distressed and encouraged him. He sucked in a breath before speaking. "Pride is lost," he began, solemnly. "I am a creature belonging to no one and possessing nothing, though those of this world once compelled me to believe otherwise."

Caress the one Reaching, searching for something untouched. Hearing voices of the never-fading calling Through seemingly unfeeling eyes, Minerva watched as the man she had appeared before fell to his knees to bow before her. It went without saying that while he might have lost his direction and any sense of loyalty or respect for anyone or anything else in Gaia, he had not lost it for her. Perhaps it was more of a mortal action to feel joy over that, but Minerva couldn't help but be pleased over that knowledge. His greeting too warmed her. Simple, yet eloquent. She would expect no less from this man. For the time being she chose to remain silent and simply allowed herself the satisfaction of roving her eyes across his body. It had been such a length of time since Minerva had appeared before a mortal she hardly knew what to do with herself. Still, it felt good to be here now. The planet called for her, yearned for her.
She was disappointed that once more this great man had lost his way. He, who was full of greatness. He who was filled with potential to do great things was crippled with a path riddled with being led astray from the final goal. His words were satisfying to her. Before one could be used in a way she would use him (...that sounds bad) they had to prove that pride would not get in the way of their service. It didn't escape her notice that he quoted from the writings of LOVELESS in his speech. That brought a smile to her face, faint as it was.
As her eyes roved his body, she was quick to notice how fatigued he appeared to be. While this was simply the trials of being mortal - and not the degrading that she had previously healed him of - Minerva found her heart stirring at the scene. For a mortal, he had a strength in him that few could match, and she found herself admiring. There was a determination to live there that few could say they possessed. Kneeling on one knee in front of the prostrated man, Minerva laid a hand on his shoulder. "Do not be distressed, for you are beloved by the goddess.", she responded. That above even her desire and ability to heal him might bolster his spirit.
That would not be enough though. There was an energy that she was passing to the mortal that caused them both to glow momentarily. In it she sought to revive his spirit and his weakened physical state. "Rise, Genesis.", she said firmly with a gentle squeeze to his shoulder. She herself did what she had commanded him to do also. "You speak erroneous words." Her gaze didn't waver from where she had rested them on the mortal. This was a man indeed strong in spirit and will. He claimed to belong to no one, yet treated her with the respect of a faithful servant. "You are revered in the eyes of Minerva." Her gaze intensified. "Would you deny service to me?"

Oh, how he wished to gaze on her as she stood before him, but Genesis had far, far too much respect for her and her divinity to raise his head before she gave him leave to do so. The very ground that her feet pressed should have felt honored - nearly as honored as Genesis himself felt in the wake of her appearing before him seemingly at her own whim to speak with him. What could she want, he wondered. Though she had been kind enough once to heal him of the degeneration that these petty humans had wrought upon him as a creature of the skies, her intention had been clear - he was not granted her favor at the time, only her allowance that he continue living. He had always assumed that he would never see her again lest he passed away and entered the lifestream, where her will reigned. Yet she stood before him now asking him of his fate. Genesis' mind was muddled with assuptions and contradictions, but his love for her outshined them, keeping a wide, pleased smile as a man appreciating the summer breeze on his face as he stared down at her feet.
One of those feet shifted, and Genesis felt the most intense warmth against his shoulder - the touch of her hand.
His eyes widened, and his head raised, emboldened by her touch to peer at the beautiful face only inches from his and gazing on him as if she was...pleased, and her words only served to uplift him further. This...was...once, he had been forced to watch as those blue eyes had fallen shut in what appeared to Genesis' eyes to be disappointment, but now they met his own with...the favor he had hoped to gain from her once before. All his weeks and months of wandering and fighting and the subsequent fatigue lifted from his shoulders, and he felt energetic as a child again, for he was beloved by the goddess.
Her order to him was followed immediately, a pair of green orbs refusing to leave the lovely features set before them even for a moment as he stood straight again. Genesis, for once in his life, was without words as he stared at her, all his thoughts cut off outside of recognition of his joy and her beauty, though her words did pierce his mind. Was...she asking that he grant her his service fully? Was she giving his wandering soul rest in her embrace, after all these years of worthless sacrifice? Genesis did not know how to react for several moments, as his mouth fell open slightly. Every fiber of his body wished to reach out and...touch...any part of her, but he restrained himself long enough to gather his words and smile widely. "This form of mine is a servant to your every whim, most beautiful will of the lifestream."

Caress the one Reaching, searching for something untouched. Hearing voices of the never-fading calling Few mortals had ever been granted the same privilege as this one. Over the centuries, Minerva had showed herself to so few she could remember every second of the encounters. Genesis Rhapsodos and the SOLDIER Zack Fair had been the only two in hundreds of years that had obtained that blessing - and the later had been to fight her, instead of seeking her blessing. Though she had given him a fight, Minerva had retreated after she had been satisfied with his strength. After all, in the time that would come, he was to be tested greatly. While he had surpassed many mortals though, Minerva was left later to mourn when he fell. He too, had been destined for greatness that would never be fulfilled. She would not let the same happen to the other mortal that had shown himself worthy to be her champion. For that reason, she had kept a close watch on him since she had left his side the last time. While not having bestowed her blessing the first time she had revealed herself, Minerva could do so now, knowing he had repented for his earlier sins and his heart was complete toward her.
While her normally serious features were what he would see upon first gazing up to her face, Minerva allowed a shadowy smile to play across her lips. His soul was laid bare for her in the green eyes staring back, and for a moment she studied him far deeper than just his outward appearance. A strength lay there that had been absent upon her earlier assistance to him, a strength perhaps that had been dampened by the circumstances. One thing she could be sure of now however, was that Genesis was ready for what she was about to ask of him. He had not been before, but he was now. As far as a goddess could, Minerva felt relief. She needed assistance if she was to fight this battle to come. Rarely did she place herself into the fight of mortals, but this was one battle she knew could not be won without her immediate assistance.
She obtained the answer she had been expecting. Minerva's serious look was back, and she nodded solemnly. "Where you lacked what will be required of you previous...you are now ready.", she finally admitted. Minerva watched to see his reaction to that. It was true - he was ready. While Minerva needed someone as her champion - and arguably there was no one else she thought would be able to do so - if Genesis had not been ready, she would have simply given him more encouragement and left him to find his way again. to err was to be mortal, but one could change even their own inclination if it was expected of them.
She squeezed his arm subconsciously, before peering beyond him and to the sky. "There is much to explain.", she said in a mournful voice. "It is easier to show you." Giving a moment to adjust, Minerva watched him with unwavering aqua eyes. "Are you prepared?" She was going to show him something she had never showed another mortal, but it was necessary for him to see not only this realm, but also the others beyond. He would be able to make out the threat that was slipping ever nearer, even so much as lapping at the core of Gaia, of her lifestream. If she let it, it could corrupt the planet - and weaken herself - permanently.
