Alright, she had to admit this was more difficult than she’d initially expected it to be. ‘Act natural’, ‘act like a commoner’, it had sounded simple enough. Just relax her gait, maybe even slouch a little to give off that casual teenaged look and say things like ‘hi’ or ‘what’s up’ and ‘catch you later’. It had certainly not sounded complicated when Zidane had told her these things, and she’d been so sure she could pull it off. So how come she had such a hard time using casual speech with people? With a bit of a defeated look, Garnet sat on a nearby bench, just observing people her own age run around and do… whatever, really. It didn’t matter, because she needed to adjust in all areas of her life. Talking to shopkeepers, asking for directions, idle chatter with random civilians. She needed to learn it all eventually if she wanted to honestly come across as a normal girl instead of a princess. Part of her knew she wasn’t going to learn a thing if she didn’t go out and try some stuff for herself though. Theory was all nice and well, but if she couldn’t apply it into practice, what was the point of even sitting here and memorizing other people’s words and actions? It would simply turn into another bit of information that had been gathered but was never going to be used. The princess sighed softly to herself as she pushed herself off the bench and stared at the shop across the street. Surely the poor merchant had seen her sitting here for the past hour, just staring at him and his customers as some sort of psychopath. Whatever courage she’d gathered almost instantly sunk away again when she thought about that possibility, that he’d noticed her and that he’d ask her about why she’d sat here staring like a creep when she went up to talk to him. Oh man this was scary… she really didn’t want to go up there and make a fool of herself… but what choice did she really have? No one else could help her adjust to this new life. It was something she had to do alone. Something she wanted to do alone, because she wasn’t a little girl anymore. It was time she stopped acting like one by hiding behind other people whenever something needed to be done. It was time she grew up.
Taking a few deep breaths, Garnet physically forced her body to relax and awkwardly forced her posture to look more like that of the other teens she’d seen today. It felt wrong somehow… after all those years of having people pile books on top of her head to teach her how to walk perfectly straight, it felt wrong to suddenly slouch like a beggar. “Yeah…” she whispered to herself. So weird… but here goes. With a huff, she walked up to the merchant and forced a smile onto her face, “Greeti-Hiya!” she offered a small wave and leaned against the counter as she perused the merchant’s wares. Oh no… what was she going to buy? She’d been so focused on seeming normal and casual that she hadn’t considered what she was even going to get. “Uh…” she muttered quietly, her entire body tensed up and despite everything she’d observed today, she looked every bit as awkward as she felt. “Can I help you ma’am?” the man asked patiently, “Indeed…” she replied and then mentally chastised herself. Honestly, how hard could it be to simply talk like a normal person? “I mean no! I um… seem to have forgotten my wallet… hehehe… silly me… sorry, so uh, catch you later… uh... guy?” as horrible as those words sounded to her own ears, and as awkward as the man looked at her before bidding her farewell, Garnet couldn’t help but feel a little proud for not only having come up with a valid excuse, but also managing to sound almost normal. She’d just need to keep practicing, get that stutter out of her speech, learn some more ‘normal people words’ and she’d be just fine… hopefully. “See ya!” she called a bit more confidently before rushing out the store and practically running away from it until she could round a corner. That was so awkward… but she’d done it anyway! Though her cheeks were still slightly flushed from the encounter, a genuine smile had formed on her lips. She was one step closer to seeming like a normal girl.

I looked for suck...but I'm not sure where it is... There's a really great audition here, though.
